MarEdu would like to see well harmonised, well assessed and well documented programmes for education and training of merchant navy officers, based on the international standards, with a view to improve safety at sea.
  • MarEdu Partnership has expanded and several new websites have been constructed. For new websites please refer to www.marifuture.org.
  • Congratulations C4FF for success in the EU FP7 ExtremeFactories project – for more information see www.c4ff.co.uk.
  • A new proposal has been submitted to the EU for establishing a major maritime centre (TMCE) in Turkey value at 41 MEUR.
  • TRAIN 4Cs III proposal to send SOS graduates to Glasgow City College supported by C4FF has been approved by the EU. SOS was funded by the EU and led to recognition of TUDEV MET programmes worldwide.
  • TUDEV scheme supported by C4FF to send cadets to Plymouth University has been very successful. All students have been successful to date. Three more cadets were sent to Plymouth University in September 2011 to study the final year of the Hons degree in Marine Science (commercial Shipping)
  • MarEdu through C4FF will support several international project proposals including the Twinning proposal with Azerbaijan.
  • A new EU funded project called IMPACT will commence in January 2012.
  • MarEdu partners have presented/chaired and published several papers at major maritime conferences and event – for more information and access to these papers see Publications and Recent Report at www.marifuture.org.
  • TUDEV will organise the SURPASS projects final group meeting and conference on 13-14 December 2011 in Istanbul, Turkey – details will be send shortly
  • The MAIDER final group meeting and conference will take place on 9th December 2011 in Holland.
  • The UniMET conference will take place on 15-16 December in the UK – Details will be sent to invited individuals and organisations shortly.

  • Marine Education Division of Centre for Factories of the Future (CFF) was built on the experience of CFF which has many years of experience in designing and developing vocational education programmes. The Centre was developed in Collaboration with the Turkish Maritime Education Foundation (TUDEV) and several other nautical institutions a partnership named MarEdu. MarEdu offers a range of support services on behalf of its members and aims primarily to improve safety at sea.

    MarTEL Project

    MarEdu has initiated MariFuture. MariFuture has supported the initiation of the following new projects: MarTEL Plus, UniMET, CAPTAINS and Sail Ahead to complement the existing Maider, www.maider.pro and SURPASS, www.surpass.pro. Arrangements are being made to form a consortium of progressive maritime education and training organisations to develop a FP7 proposal to encourage young people to join the seafaring profession.     TUDEV has been running Officer of Watch programmes for some 10 years. In 2003 TUDEV become a BTEC Centre. BTEC Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) in Navigation Engineering and HND in Marine Engineering cover the education syllabuses of IMO and are accredited by IMarEST, MNTB and accepted by MCA. TUDEV became an NVQ Centre in 2004 and intends to apply to become a SVQ Centre.

    CFF and TUDEV together with several nautical institutions of further and higher education have established a programme of cooperation to improve education and training practices in Europe.
