MarEdu would like to see well harmonised, well assessed and well documented programmes for education and training of merchant navy officers, based on the international standards, with a view to improve safety at sea.
  • TUDEV receive approval from the Turkish Government for the establishment of a new University, Piri Reis University.
  • MarEdu opens a new office in Coventry University Technology Park.
  • Dr. Martin Ziarati will direct the work of the new office at Coventry..
  • Leonardo SOS project, started in October 2005, is progressing well and all work packages are being developed as planned.
  • The Pre-framework 7 proposal concerning demand forecasting using AI techniques with UK partners has been approved.
  • Leonardo project, “Train 4Cs” was succesfully concluded.Final report is being prepaired.
  • Maredu will submit new Leonardo Proposals called “Hello Sailor” and “Pick–Up” - for more information see International Projects.
  • Letters of intent and memoranda of understanding with several new partners have been signed.
  • Discussion with Edexcel to offer a number of new qualifications has been successful. Maredu in addition to the HND/Degree programmes will also offer NVQ at levels 3 and 4.
  • The discussions with several European universities have led to new degree programmes been added to the existing Maredu 3+1 modular HND/Degree scheme.
  • A new research group has been established with representatives from TUDEV, C4FF, Anglia Ruskin University,De Monfort University, Coventry University and several industrial and professional partners to develop Clean Diesel II following the success of the first EU funded Clean Diesel project. More about this exciting project in the next few weeks.
  • A new research project on Clean Diesel has commenced supported by Coventery University.
  • Two new Leonardo proposals (SURPASS and MarTEL) were prepared and sent to, one to the Turkish National Agency and the other to the UK National Agency for consideation. These will complement PICK-UP and Hello Sailor projects. For more detailes see International Projects...
  • Tudev is supporting spirit consortium. The proposal concerns a major research programme related emergency situation being developed in collaboration with several major partners.
  • Marine Education Division of Centre for Factories of the Future (CFF) was built on the experience of CFF which has many years of experience in designing and developing vocational education programmes. The Centre was developed in Collaboration with the Turkish Maritime Education Foundation (TUDEV) and several other nautical institutions a partnership named MarEdu. MarEdu offers a range of support services on behalf of its members and aims primarily to improve safety at sea.

    TUDEV has been running Officer of Watch programmes for some 10 years. In 2003 TUDEV become a BTEC Centre. BTEC Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) in Navigation Engineering and HND in Marine Engineering cover the education syllabuses of IMO and are accredited by IMarEST, MNTB and accepted by MCA. TUDEV became an NVQ Centre in 2004 and intends to apply to become a SVQ Centre.

    CFF and TUDEV together with several nautical institutions of further and higher education have established a programme of cooperation to improve education and training practices in Europe.
